Statistics Norway , Statistical Methods and Standards Division Li - Chun Zhang A method of weighting adjustment for survey data subject to nonignorable nonresponse
نویسنده
چکیده
Weighting adjustment is a standard quasi-randomization approach for survey data subject to nonresponse (Little, 1986). The existing methods are typically based on the assumption that nonresponse is independent of the survey variable conditional to the auxiliary variables used to form the adjustment cells. In this paper we consider nonignorable nonresponse which is independent of certain auxiliary information conditional to the variable of interest. We estimate the size of the sample adjustment cells using a method of moment conditional to the sample. The method relies on only the nonresponse mechanism, and is independent of the sample design. In variance estimation, we evaluate the nonresponse effect on estimation and design, analogously to the concept of design effect. By comparing the nonresponse effects under a nonignorable model against those under an ignorable one, we obtain a means of measuring the effect of nonignorability. We motivate and illustrate our approach for estimation of household composition.

متن کاملPropensity score adjustment with several followups
Abstract Propensity score weighting adjustment is commonly used to handle unit nonresponse. When the response mechanism is nonignorable in the sense that the response probability depends directly on the study variable, a followup sample is commonly used to obtain an unbiased estimator using the framework of two-phase sampling, where the follow-up sample is assumed to respond completely. In prac...
متن کاملParametric and semiparametric model-based estimates of the finite population mean for two-stage cluster samples with item nonresponse.
This article concerns item nonresponse adjustment for two-stage cluster samples. Specifically, we focus on two types of nonignorable nonresponse: nonresponse depending on covariates and underlying cluster characteristics, and depending on covariates and the missing outcome. In these circumstances, standard weighting and imputation adjustments are liable to be biased. To obtain consistent estima...
متن کاملEstimating Variance of the Sample Mean in Two-phase Sampling with Unit Non-response Effect
In sample surveys, we always deal with two types of errors: Sampling error and non-sampling error. One of the most common non-sampling errors is nonresponse. This error happens when some sample units are not observed or viewed but they do not answer some of the questions. The complete prevention of this error is not possible, but it can be significantly reduced. The non-response causes bias and ...
متن کاملNonresponse prediction in an establishment survey using combination of statistical learning methods
Nonrespose is a source of error in the survey results and national statistical organizations are always looking for ways to control and reduce it. Predicting nonrespons sampling units in the survey before conducting the survey is one of the solutions that can help a lot in reducing and treating the survey nonresponse. Recent advances in technology and the facilitation of complex calculations...
